HST booth demonstrates what goes into a spindle repair

High Speed Technologies, Inc. are experts in Stone Cutting Spindle Repair used to turn granite and marble into works of art. At a recent trade show in Atlanta we showed our support for the industry with samples and informative videos. Stone cutting spindles lead a rough life fending off an onslaught of abrasive stone dust slurry. When a spindle fails HST offers a high quality competitively priced alternative to OEM repair.

Unlike machinists, most people who operate CNC stone cutting machines come from the Home Improvement Industry. So unlike a machinist they are quite unaccustomed to the type of tolerances required to repair a modern CNC spindle. For instance they may measure counter top installations to about 1/16th of an inch and they will do it rain or shine, summer or winter. When repairing a high performance spindle, HST measures to 1/10,000 of an inch. So precise in fact, that all of our measurements must be done in a climate controlled environment.

Several stone cutting CNC manufacturers were demonstrating their machines. Many of them were five axis machines; truly impressive. These machines are able to take a solid chunk of stone and replicate a master piece that would take one of the masters months to complete.

Today’s machines allow home improvement contractors to cutout and finish stone counter tops all in one setup. As the stone cutting business becomes more automated and the machines become more sophisticated, contractors will need to rely on technically competent repair facilities to keep these machines running. Even the very best machines breakdown after use and abuse. So a significant part of customer satisfaction is tied to the ability to get the machine back up and running as fast as possible. A fast response is not something an OEM can always do. The OEM focus is on selling new machines. The focus at HST is on getting a high quality repair completed as fast as possible.

We met with several OEMs in an effort to foster better relations. Why would an OEM want to work with HST? When they think about it they realize that it is to their benefit. When a customer knows that he has access to alternate service providers, he is more likely to purchase that brand. That is one reason why a person might select a Chevrolet; they know that there are many independent service centers that are familiar with that brand. GM also knows that and they make OEM parts available to the independent service providers. GM as well as other very large OEMs sell their parts to independent service providers because they know it helps with overall customer satisfaction. That in turn helps with sales.
