This Giordano Colombo spindle was very contaminated with wood debris. The contamination migrated into the bearings causing excessive wear and catastrophic cage failure in bearing #3. The front bearings also showed signs of fretting and the rear bearings were very loose within the housing bore.

Wood debris migrated past through the labyrinth seal, contaminating the entire spindle assembly.
